Johnson City ISD Re-brand: A Closer Look

Named after our 37th President, Lyndon B. Johnson, who called this community home, Johnson City ISD (JCISD) remains a close-knit school district that serves more than 600 students in heart of the Texas Hill Country.

After several years of internal re-branding efforts with inconsistent outcomes, JCISD’s leadership wanted to unify their identity and messaging with brand standards that balanced the district’s deep roots in the community with its role in shaping future generations of students.

In the fall of 2023, the district engaged WRA’s in-house graphic design team, a team specializing in supporting K-12 districts, to guide the community through an in-depth process of discovery and conceptualization.

The district then assembled a committee that represented the community JCISD serves, including seven decades of alumni. WRA engaged with the committee to ensure we understood the district’s key attributes and goals for their new brand. Based on that direction, our design team created several concepts for the committee to review.

After a few rounds of edits, finalization, and navigating the trademark process, this successful endeavor paved the way for the district to unveil its new brand guidelines – one that captures both its essence and community spirit. The reimagined brand serves as the beacon by which the district will be recognized, and that will distinguish Johnson City ISD amidst its counterparts for generations to come.

The launch was strategically synchronized with the construction of a state-of-the-art middle school campus and comprehensive renovations across the district.

The deliverable serves as both a brand guide that school leaders can use to implement the brand and an experiential graphics package that showcases various identity elements in high volume spaces within the facility. The brand guide includes directions on typography, color, and identity mark usage, and includes a series of badges that can be incorporated. Our team successfully provided the brand development and experiential graphic design services to help usher in a new era for the district.

“The re-branding process was customized to our district’s needs,” the district’s superintendent stated. “WRA’s team was responsive, and the final product is timeless.”
