High School Graduate Lisette Delgado Earns the 2024 WRA Architects Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the 2024 WRA Architects Scholarship recipient, Lisette Delgado from La Vega High School in Waco, Texas. She was awarded on April 23 at the La Vega Pirates Education Foundation’s scholars’ banquet which honors 20 top graduates of the La Vega High School Class of 2024.

Every year La Vega Independent School District selects an exceptional student who not only excels academically but in leadership, determination, and tenacity. Lisette meets all these criteria and more. Here’s what her teachers at La Vega High School had to say about her:

“She carries with her the integrity and honesty that is so necessary for a successful young person to have,” noted Kay Sheehy, English IV teacher. “Every teacher has a few students who make a strong impact – that is how I feel about Lisette. Her work ethic is so strong, and she shows maturity beyond her years. I see a lifetime of brightness and success ahead for this talented and accomplished young woman. An accomplished student, and overall lively person, she is one of those students who make me so proud to teach at La Vega High School.”

Jonathan McHaney, AVID Instructor and Theater Director, recalls her hard work and enthusiasm to volunteer: “I enjoy teaching Lisette. She is a very attentive student. As a student, I always know that her work will be done on time and done well. I met Lisette in her Junior year of high school as her AVID teacher. I know that she helps in several different organizations throughout our school. She is always willing to volunteer, even if not a formal member. She works hard to achieve her goals.”

Bob Sheehy, Jr., Boys Soccer Assistance Coach and Mathematics Teacher, says she is a true leader and has no doubt she will succeed in anything she does.

“During her time as a student at La Vega High School, I have watched her grow as a student and as an exceptional young woman,” Sheehy said. “She has developed both the commitment to academic excellence and a determination that should serve her well as she pursues her goals in higher education. Lisette has shown tremendous determination in both her academic pursuits and employment activities. She has emerged as a leader in the Criminal Justice program, as well as working to be an AVID leader. She has balance part-time work while pursuing her academic goals. By working while in school, Lisette has learned to manage her time and efforts. She understands the perseverance and dedication required to reach her lofty goals. She gives much of her free time to her church and at school where she actively assists other students and teachers. She has helped tutor freshman in biology and photography. She is also part of the VITA Tax Program and assists the community by preparing tax returns free of charge. I have no doubt she will be successful if given the resources to thrive.”

Congratulations Lisette! We can’t wait to see all the great things you will do.
